July 25, 2015 – Good News Reflections

Be sure to read to the end to hear about “God’s Miraculous Protection.”  We have also included “On The Funny Side” with this update.
Dear Praying Friends,
We had a wonderful time of ministry this past week at Philadelphia Baptist Church, in Calhoun, GA.  People who came as visitors were bringing their own visitors.  In fact, it was a visitor who won the Visitors contest. By the end of the week there was a total of 41 visitors, and 3 precious young people came to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

On visitation last Saturday, 12 year old, Kamaya, and her family were invited to come to the Family Crusade.  Her mom was very hesitant; because of some child abductions in the area.  The children were excited about coming, so their grandmother talked their mom into letting them ride the bus on Sunday night.  Before the Youth Pastor left to go home on Sunday night, he got a text from their mom letting him know that the kids had a wonderful time. They couldn’t stop talking about all the fun they had and the things they learned about God.  She told him that they would be ready for the church bus to pick them up on Monday night.  They came every night, and Kamaya ended up winning the prize for bringing the most visitors for the week.

Eight year old, Jaidee, came forward on Monday night, but insisted that she was not a sinner – “…it was her sister’s fault.”  Tricia talked with her, but did not try to lead her to the Lord – since she was not ready to admit to being a sinner; she was not ready to become a Christian.  Jaidee came forward again on Tuesday evening, but this time she was ready! – and Tricia had the privilege of leading her to the Lord.

After the service on Thursday evening, we packed up our equipment, hooked-up our trailer, and drove home to Riceville, TN (about 100 miles).  On Friday morning, Susan had a doctor’s appointment in Knoxville, TN – and then we drove to South Webster, OH, where we will begin a Family Crusade on Sunday.  Please pray that many decisions will be made for Christ!

God’s Miraculous Protection

On our trip to South Webster, we noticed a high-pitched sound coming from the truck; but were unable to isolate the source.  After unhooking the trailer at the church last night, I felt a “thump” under the hood, and then we lost both the power steering and the power brakes. When I looked, I noticed that the Serpentine Belt had broken. If this would have happened a little earlier, I would possibly have lost control of the vehicle on the curvy and hilly Kentucky terrain (with pulling a 16,000 lb. trailer).  If it had happened later, we may not have had time to make the below repairs before leaving for our next meeting.   God’s timing is perfect!!!!

A mechanic came by and looked at the truck this morning, and plans to work on it this Monday. There are several repairs we would like to take care of this week:

  • Front Brakes
  • Serpentine Belt
  • Steering Box
  • Thermostat
  • Radiator Hose

Please pray that God will provide the funds to have these repairs done, before we leave for our next meeting in Clarington, OH.

On the Funny Side

Does it not tickle your “funny bone” to hear the things young people say!  This past week at Philadelphia Baptist Church, in Calhoun, GA, a visitor brought her 2 year old brother on the bus.  During the meeting time, this 2 year old looked up at one of the workers and said, “Let me give you some sugar!”

On July 6th, while doing our family devotions, Rachel gave a perspective that just cracked us up!  (Take a minute to read Proverbs 6:13)  I asked Rachel what she thought about the part that says, “. . . he speaketh with his feet, . . .”  Without any hesitation she said, “It means that he puts his foot in his mouth.”

Reaching Families for Him,

Tim, Susan, and Rachel Vermaas
